INTERNATIONAL PEN PAL PROGRAM

The 2017-2018 pen pal program involved over 60 combined students from LMU and the Catholic San Victor School. It foraged new bonds between students, bringing hope to an otherwise isolated community to address a women’s health issue that is not often spoken of.

In the early stages of the program, LMU students were paired with one to two young girls from San Victor Village. Each month, LMU students come together at writing workshops. At the workshops, students are given the opportunity to talk about anything interesting and appropriate that came up in their letter. It is also an opportunity for personal reflection and discussion.

Combining paper and electronic mail, students send letters back and forth every month. Although unique to each pair, these letters are guided by topics to spark personal reflection, build character, and raise self-esteem. Pictured below are most of the 2017-2018 San Victor and LMU pen pals.
