HEIDI VISSER

Co-President

Heidi Visser is a senior at LMU, studying Psychology and Biology. She serves as Co-President of Empower HER and has been involved with the organization since her sophomore year at LMU. 


During her senior year of high school, Visser was part of Clarkson Universities Doctors Without Borders mission trip to Quito, Ecuador where she volunteered at understaffed clinics. She was inspired to get involved in healthcare and do what she could to raise awareness of health disparities in rural communities.

HANNAN SALAM

Co-President

Hannan Salam is a sophomore psychology major at LMU from Palos Verdes, California. She joined Empower HER during her freshman year because she is passionate about empowering women through education, and ending the stigma around menstruation.
Her role in Empower HER includes organizing meetings, sending emails to club members, and coordinating with Reto Juvenil Internacional. In her free time, she enjoys playing the flute, going to the beach, and spending time with friends and family.

JULIANNA ALLEN

Social Media & Recruitment

Julianna Allen is a sophomore Communications major and Spanish minor at Loyola Marymount. She is the Recruitment Chair, Social Media Manager, and Head of Fundraising at Empower HER.
She believes that education is one of the greatest forms of power, and aspires to empower others by working toward educational and gender equity. Allen strives toward the expansion of Empower HER by running social media accounts, graphic designing, recruiting, and more.

STACEY LEON

Treasurer

Stacey is a junior Finance major from Los Angeles, California. Her interests in finance align perfectly with her role as Treasurer for Empower HER.


At the beginning of her sophomore year, Stacey’s roommate Nicole introduced her to Empower HER and it’s mission. From then on, she has been involved in this organization with a passion for establishing long-lasting bonds. Now, as Treasurer, Stacey aims toward growing EmpowerHER through managing funds.

MARISA CARIÑO

Founder

Marisa Cariño, senior Biology major at Loyola Marymount, founded the Empower HER organization in April 2017. She was awarded a $10,000 grant from the Donald A. Strauss Foundation, which give life to the public service project and was inducted as a Strauss Scholar in April 2017. Cariño grew up in Roseville, CA and possesses a wide scope of interests including medicine, public health, education and service.
